Just because...doesn't mean...

Danny coined the phrase "just because, doesn't mean". I thought I'd dedicate a few posts to this idea. Because you don't always need a lot of nouns or verbs to make a point.
Just because you know how to de-saturate everything but a kids eyes in a picture, it doesn't mean you are a great photographer. I seriously see this all over the place and it annoys me on so many levels. I'm not a photographer by any means and if I was, I definitely wouldn't be an a-hole purist about it. But at the same time, I think Photoshop has kind of made people believe they are more talented than they really are. And that's all people need these days...more self-esteem.
Lets take the above picture of my nephew into consideration. I took it at his first birthday party. It was a memorable event, but I really wanted to have a memory of his eyes being effing blue to the point its creepy. That way when Vaughn grows up we can say...man how come your eyes look so dull now? So I spent all of 45 seconds creating a hue/saturation mask, and then blowing it out with two much brightness, and now I'm an amateur photographer. It's almost good enough for me to make an overbearing "Jim Pitt Studios" logo with the Trajan Pro font to put at the bottom.
But here's the thing. That's an awful picture. It's got my brother's freaking crotch taking up like a solid third of the canvas. But the eyes are really colorful so I'm a great photographer. Neat huh?! 45 seconds. That's all it takes. So just remember...just because...doesn't mean.

HAHAHA!!
Absolutely perfect usage of the phrase. It is so true - everyone that has a camera and photoshop these days...
In your defense (against your offense) you have taken some pretty amazing pictures without the assistance of photoshop, so don't sell your self short. "Avocados in a Bowl" comes to mind along with "Pornacos". I know what point you are trying to make, but don't throw yourself into that crowd. Just because, doesn't mean...
Thanks for the laugh, you can always put me in a great mood. I think you are an amazing photographer simply because of the crotch shoot, so priceless.
Its true...I was taking a picture of Danny's bulge and then Vaughn just decided to park down and start eating cake right in my way...
Man, I am laughing so hard right now. We have talked about this before and you know my feelings about this as well. I think the best point you made is how all of these adorable children with beatuiful eyes will grow up and suddenly feel dissappointed in their ever dull eyes! Great post!
This is bullsh**. I was going to give you this for Christmas (in a esoteric black frame), but now I'm not. I'll just post it on my blog (http://dansftown.blogspot.com/). Thanks for ruining my Christmas present.
